Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet instant dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 package (8 oz) full-fat cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine the warmed whole milk, instant dry yeast, and about 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to activate the yeast.
- Add the remaining granulated sugar, melted unsalted butter, eggs, and salt to the milk mixture. Whisk everything together until well combined.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour while mixing on low speed with a dough hook until a shaggy dough forms.
- Increase the speed to medium-low and knead the dough for 7-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Lightly grease a large bowl with oil. Transfer the dough to this bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Mix the softened unsalted butter, light brown sugar, and ground cinnamon in a separate bowl. Blend until it forms a uniform paste.
- Once the dough has doubled in size, gently punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle, approximately 18×12 inches and about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the dough.
- Starting from one of the long sides, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut this log into 12 equal slices.
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and arrange the sliced cinnamon rolls inside.
- Cover the dish loosely and let the rolls rise in a warm place for an additional 30-45 minutes until they appear puffy.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Once the oven is hot, uncover the rolls and bake them for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown on top.
- Remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Meanwhile, prepare the frosting.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter until smooth.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar while beating until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Generously spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve immediately.
