Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 pkg active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 3/4 cup milk (warm to 105°-115°)
- 3 tbsp white sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp butter (softened)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup butter (softened)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (dark or light)
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 4 oz. cream cheese (softened)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp milk
- 2 tbsp butter (soft)
Instructions
- Start by warming the milk in a small saucepan until it reaches about 105°-115°.
- Remove it from the heat and stir in the active dry yeast and 3 tablespoons of white sugar. Let this mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it’s frothy.
- Combine 2 cups of the all-purpose flour and salt in a large bowl.
- Add the frothy yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter to the bowl.
- Mix everything together until well combined.
- Gradually add in the remaining flour, one cup at a time, stirring until the dough forms a ball.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
- Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, white sugar, and ground cinnamon until you have a spreadable paste.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick and spread the cinnamon filling evenly over it.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long end to the other and slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Arrange the rolls on a greased baking pan, cover again, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Prepare the glaze by whisking softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and softened butter until smooth.
- Let the rolls cool for a few minutes before drizzling the cream cheese glaze over the top.
