Description

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 pkg active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 3/4 cup milk (warm to 105°-115°)
  • 3 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (dark or light)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz. cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp butter (soft)

Instructions

  1. Start by warming the milk in a small saucepan until it reaches about 105°-115°.
  2. Remove it from the heat and stir in the active dry yeast and 3 tablespoons of white sugar. Let this mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it’s frothy.
  3. Combine 2 cups of the all-purpose flour and salt in a large bowl.
  4. Add the frothy yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter to the bowl.
  5. Mix everything together until well combined.
  6. Gradually add in the remaining flour, one cup at a time, stirring until the dough forms a ball.
  7. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  8. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
  9. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, white sugar, and ground cinnamon until you have a spreadable paste.
  10. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick and spread the cinnamon filling evenly over it.
  11. Roll the dough tightly from one long end to the other and slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  12. Arrange the rolls on a greased baking pan, cover again, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  13. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  14. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  15. Prepare the glaze by whisking softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and softened butter until smooth.
  16. Let the rolls cool for a few minutes before drizzling the cream cheese glaze over the top.

Notes

Pairs well with coffee or tea. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
