- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1 1/2 Tbsp cinnamon
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- Powdered sugar (for icing)
Instructions
- Melt the butter and warm the milk: Heat the butter and milk together until the temperature reaches between 100°F and 110°F.
- Combine ingredients: Pour the warm milk and melted butter into a mixing bowl, then sprinkle in the yeast and sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
- Mix in the wet ingredients: Add in the egg and a splash of vanilla extract. Stir everything well to combine.
- Add the flour: Gradually incorporate the flour into the mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Proof the dough: Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and place it in a warm oven for about 10 minutes.
- Prepare the filling: Mix the softened butter, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and a splash of vanilla extract in a small bowl.
- Roll out the dough: After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle shape.
- Spread the filling: Evenly spread the cinnamon filling over the rolled-out dough.
- Roll it up: Starting from one end, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log shape.
- Cut into slices: Use a sharp knife or dental floss to cut the log into about 12 slices.
- Bake: Pop the pan into a preheated oven at 350°F for 20-25 minutes.
- Top with icing: Let the rolls cool before drizzling with a creamy icing made from softened cream cheese and powdered sugar.
Notes
Serve warm with coffee or tea. Add chopped nuts on top for texture.
