Description
A delightful twist on classic sloppy joes, featuring caramelized onions and melted Swiss cheese with ground beef.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
- Add sliced onions and cook for 10-12 minutes until golden and caramelized.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Drain excess fat, then stir in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Let simmer for 5 minutes to meld flavors.
- Toast hamburger buns lightly until golden brown.
- Scoop the beef mixture onto each bun’s bottom half, top with Swiss cheese, and cover with the top bun.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
For extra caramelization, cook the onions a little longer until they turn deeply golden. Feel free to add toppings like sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños for some kick. If you like a cheesier sloppy joe, double the Swiss cheese.
