No Ricotta Baked Ziti

Description

A hearty and cheesy baked ziti dish without ricotta, layered with pasta, meat sauce, and béchamel.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ziti pasta
  • 2 cups meat sauce
  • 2 cups béchamel sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for greasing
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, drain and set aside.
  3. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the cooked ziti, followed by half of the meat sauce, and half of the béchamel sauce.
  4. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese over the top.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining ziti, meat sauce, béchamel sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
  6. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let cool slightly, garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. This dish can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
