Description

Delicious Red Velvet Cookie Bars topped with creamy cream cheese frosting, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring (liquid or gel)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar (distilled or white)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened but not starting to melt)
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese (brick style)
  • 2 1/23 1/2 cups powdered sugar (sift if lumpy)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 tablespoons cream (whipping cream or table cream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: Combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter and sugars: Beat the softened butter with granulated and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and vinegar, and beat until smooth.
  5. Combine wet and dry mixtures gradually.
  6. Spread the batter in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Make the cream cheese frosting by whipping together softened butter and cream cheese, gradually mixing in powdered sugar and salt.
  9. Frost the cooled bars generously.
  10. Slice into squares and serve!

Notes
