Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 6 tbsp (90g) vegetable oil, divided
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp (15g) grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp (45g) soy sauce, divided
  • 2 tbsp (30g) oyster sauce (optional)

  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  2. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let them sit for about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the sliced onions and sauté until soft and caramelized.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from the pan.

  7. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
  9. Pour this sauce over the beef and let it simmer for a couple of minutes until thickened.
  10. Add the sautéed onions back to the pan and stir to combine.
  11. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute beef with firm tofu or seitan. For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños while cooking the onions.
