Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and buttermilk alternately until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick.
- Cool the cake in the pan, then invert to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth, then fold in whipped cream.
- Slice the cooled cake in half horizontally and spread cream cheese mixture on one layer, topping with the other layer.
- Slice into squares or bars and serve.
