Description

Crispy, tender meat served over fluffy rice, drizzled with tangy tonkatsu sauce. A comfort food classic from Japan!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pork tenderloin or chicken breast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 1/2 cup tonkatsu sauce
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • Pickled ginger (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the meat with salt and pepper.
  2. Dredge the meat in flour, coating it well.
  3. Dip it in beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off.
  4. Coat the meat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Fry the breaded meat until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the meat from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve sliced katsu over rice, drizzle with tonkatsu sauce, and garnish with green onions and pickled ginger.

Notes

Rest the meat before slicing for maximum tenderness. Use panko for the best crunch.
